I have 3 Lyre tail mollies, 3 tuxedo wags, 2 sunburst platy, 4 neon tetras, 2 rasboras, 7 guppies, 1 african dwarf frog, 1 bamboo shrimp, 1 golden dojo loach, 4 glow light tetras, 2 glowlights, and one sword tail and a male betta. I have several live plants, and a couple fake plants, and a large lava rock, and 6 small decorations (turtle, no fishing sign, ect.) I have about 17 pounds of gravel, and some different colored glass marbles throughout the bottom, and I have 2 filters. I test the water regularly, and all the levels are right, but the water still seems a little cloudy to me. I do 25% water changes every other week, and u use water conditioners, and nitrate balances. Is there something I am doing wrong, or is there something else i should be doing that will clear up the water?
I don”t over feed them. I just put in a couple little pinches 2 times a gay, and i skim out the extra after they are done eating. I use Tetra-Min flakes, and I put 1 little algae wafer in a day for the bamboo shrimp.
I am also thinking about getting 2 female sword tails, because my male seems lonely, but I want to get this cloudiness out of the way first.

Hey everyone, i am new to the fish world, i have had my tank running for about two weeks now, i currently have 4 about to have 6 african cichlids in there, i was told that i should clean out my tank every two weeks since its a new tank an setup, i have a 55 gallon, with a HOT Magnum Canister filter, i will probably put more carbon in it, do i have to take all the fish out, along with decorations? how long do they stay out before i put them back in the tank? i know i take 25% of the water out, when i put new water in do i just put tap water in and dechlorinize it?? im not too sure, any advice will help. thanks!

Hey, I’m just diving in to the fish hobby, and I purchased a couple African Dwarf Frogs because they’re just too darn cute. I had them in a 20 gallon tank with some Harlequin Rasboras, but I decided I wanted some angelfish so I got a bigger tank.. The frogs seemed fine until I got the angels, who will actually eat all of the frogs food before giving the frogs a chance to even touch it! So, last night, one of my frogs started to die.. I’m going to assume he starved. I had planned on setting up a smaller tank for them already next weekend, but I guess the frog had already run out of time.

So, currently, I have a 5 gallon tank with no substrate and only a couple decorations. It’s occupied by one ADF and two apple snails which I’m going to be giving away soon. I was wondering if my frog would be ok in a heavily planted tank with a few shrimp and one more ADF. I’m also curious what sort of shrimp I could get that are not $5-10 a shrimp – just in case they don’t seem to work out. I was also curious if I can/should add maybe a nerite snail to help with the clean up?

Lastly, if I do plant any sort of carpeting plant on the bottom, will my frogs still be easily able to find their food?
The angelfish are pretty tiny so I’m growing them out in a 28 gallon euro tank. I know that they will need a bigger tank, and I know they can/will get aggressive, but they’re only juveniles so they were not aggressive, they didn’t even go near the frogs – just their food. My angels actually look for food on the bottom of the tank, something my rasboras had not done prior. They just happen to stumble upon it before the frogs, even though I’d specifically put it in a back corner of the tank, right by the frogs and in the planted area of my tank so it wouldn’t be easy for fish to see. I always fed the frogs while my other fish were feeding at the other side of the tank. I’ve been feeding them the frog pellets and some sort of gel-like reptomin made by tetra. I haven’t been having luck with the reptomin, but they do eat a pellet or two if they get to them. I’m going to switch to bloodworms more than likely.
Nerite snails supposedly only breed in brackish water, but I know they do not breed asexually anyways, and I’ve been keeping nerite snails for about two months and I LOVE them. No eggs (although I didn’t get any with the apple snails either). I’m so glad my LFS had them. They don’t touch my plants (like the stupid apple snails) they don’t create a lot of visible waste. They eat the dying leaves of my plants and even my fish’s poop! They’re wonderfully nasty critters – I’d highly recommend them.

I have one 100gal goldfish tank with two fancy goldfish which is where the Betta is now but I was thinking of moving her to the other tank. The goldfish eat all the food and I have to feed her separately behind the filter to keep them from getting it. The other tank has two male guppies, two red tailed black platies, and an African dwarf frog. The goldfish tank is also a lower temp than the guppy tank(goldfish72-74, guppy 76-78). My main concern is the guppies nipping her tail. They harass one platy(of course that platy is usually the one who starts the chasing. He thinks he better than the others) but leave the other alone. I would rearrange the decorations before I put her in there so there is no “set territory”. Would the frog give any trouble to her?
Please no comments about not having her in either tank. She’s very happy in the goldfish tank, it’s just feeding time is when it’s every fish for themselves.
She does have a problem with a temporary small comet(his mom is getting a new tank after discovering a crack in the old one so he is staying here for few days). He follows her around all the time. I haven’t seen any nipping but she swims away from him and flares at him if he gets too close. Also current is a little strong but I plan to fix that no matter who’s in there.
The goldfish tank is heated to around 72-74. They are fancy goldfish and prefer warmer water than comets.

So I made a few papier mache sculptures of African ladies and I used non-acidic paper and tissue, flour and water paste, aluminum foil and wire for the armature, covered the pm in a thin layer of plaster to smooth it out, and I painted over it with acrylics and then sealed it and it also has decorations like glass beads and stone and bone. And I let it dry good at each stage. I like them alot and want them to last for all my life, I’m 16, will they? How long would they last? Is there any way I can make papier mache last longer?
The tissue is non acidic too. Also should I be using something different than flour and water to bind it? Something that will last longer if you know? And is aluminum foil bad?

My Pleco has a large white sore on its stomach. I’m going to post a few pictures of it.
The pictures taken of the pleco on the tank wall are from 2 days ago.
The pictures of the pleco in the glass dinner bowl were taken 15 min ago.
The Sore started as a white spot.
The Next day it grew larger and started to crack open.
The Sore has become Pinkish and is now opening up.

I’m putting him/her into a quarantine tank and dosing him with melafix and pimafix.

Tank size – 25 gallons

Nitrates are slightly higher then needed. I’m doing water changes every other day to reduce.

Inhabitants: 1 african feather fin catfish ( 1.5 inch), 2 common pleco (both 2 inches, including injured one), 1 highfin pleco (2 inch), 4 Emerald Green Corys (Brochis Splendens), 2 Albino Corydoras, 6 Sunset platys, 6 ghost shrimp for cleaning and food.

I typically do a 35% water change every week. Cleaning non living decorations every 2-3 weeks.
I also have 1 large live plant. Here are some pictures of the tank.

For Halloween today a woman in my department came in dressed as a ghost. At some point or another, she ended up grabbing a witch hat that was sitting as part of our decorations, on top of her cubicle. She put it under her sheet. I’m not sure what progressed after this, I wasn’t paying real attention until I heard the letters KKK. During our early morning meeting we conference in a home working member of our team. She asked if anyone dressed up, and my manager listed the people, then said that this woman dressed as either a ghost or a KKK member…

Now, you see my avatar is black, so yeah. I am. My manager is half black, but found this whole thing HYSTERICAL. I write historical fiction and plays and know a lot about African American history. The KKK even in a joking reference when in mixed company is just bad taste. So, maybe this is the reason why I didn’t find this funny. The company we work for has an average mix of ethnicities. ( Maybe 3% black, 6% Hispanic– which is all high considering where I live–and the remainder give or take a few percentages white.)

I do think this started off as a joke, I also feel it crossed a line. We all do stuff in bad taste, but this became the joke for the day and I have to say I lost ALL respect for this woman!

I have had a black moor goldfish for about a year now. Yesterday morning I woke up to find one of his eyes completely gone…there was only a cavity left where the eye once was. I know for a fact his eye was there the night before because before I turn the aquarium light off at night I check out all my fish (I care for them very much, they’re pets, not just decorations as other people might find fish to be ) ). I have been checking in on him periodically through out yesterday and today to make sure he’s okay and still alive. I checked on him this afternoon and literally a half hour later, I went in my room to change and I looked in my tank and his other eye was gone!!!! Has anyone ever heard of this before? He’s shared the tank with another black moor, a ryukin goldfish, and 2 african dwarf frogs for as long as I’ve had him. They are in a 12 gallon tank. I take good care of the tank and he is fed well, so I can’t imagine that it is anything that I have done that would cause both of his eyes to fall out. Will he die or can he live without any eyes?
From what I’ve heard is that for every inch of fish you need a gallon of water; I don’t have huge fish…so I’m not thinking my tank is over crowded. Also, my frogs are tiny tiny and have never been aggressive (they aren’t the clawed frogs). I have never seen them touch the fish, let alone do something to their eyes. I really appreciate everyone’s input though! I’m just curious if anyone has heard of this happening?

First off right now we don’t have alot of food in the home which means somebody needs to go grocery shopping! My mom knows there is nothing in there for us (me and my siblings) to eat! So what she does is brings home meals from work for herself! She fixes dinner which is always some junk and she doesn’t even eat it because she knows it’s something she wouldn’t even feed to a dog! She just took a trip to Atlantic City, She just brought a professional camera that doesn’t even come out until next month, she just brought a expensive fire place, Unnecessary house decorations, New dining table set, A freaking Dolce and Gabbana bag! are you kidding me!, She brought herself a new cell phone, Shes always getting new shoes! Guess what I wear hair extensions she was being a cheapo and didn’t get me human hair so every time I try to straighten it with the flat irons or curl it with the curling irons it basically strizzles up and hardens and the hair just burns away she’s a selfish bitch and I hate her and I tell my social worker all about this but shes a weak bitch that won’t say whats right from wrong she’s always going to agree with the trash and ignorance of my selfish parents! Then my mother always expects me to do things around the house. As I say if you don’t do jack for me I’m not doing a thing for a selfish careless person! I know she can do what she wants with the money she works for but she need to get real and remember she has 3 children that need new clothes new shoes basically shes putting herself over her own children. What do you think I should do? BTW I’m 14 years old and African american!
