I’ve got a plan for a community tank, but I want advice for my 29-gallon. Would this work out?

I got a used 29-gallon yesterday, which I’m going to begin to cycle tomorrow or the next day. I’m going to have live plants with a filter, heater, naturally colored gravel, and decorations with plenty of hollows for my animals to hide out in. Driftwood, probably, too.

I am planning on putting in two dwarf gouramis, four guppies, two African Dwarf Frogs, and either six rummy-nose tetras, four cory cats, or four otocinclus.

I am wondering, though, if I can put in one angelfish if I subtract the tetras/cories/otos, or if the angelfish would be too aggressive to the other fish. I’m especially wondering if it might harm my frogs, my favorite addition to an aquarium. I don’t care for angelfish, but my grandfather was rather dissapointed that I wasn’t going to add one into my tank. If it is safe, I would like to know so that I can possibly go ahead.

If not, he’ll just have to live with dwarf gouramis, ADFs, guppies, and cories / otos / tetras.
And of course, all guppies will be male. No frying in my tank. D:<
I talked to him about the angelfish, and he said that it was all right if we didn't get them. Yay! Now I ca get what I wanted. 8D

Is it allright that I add a Nerite snail to my tank?

I currently have a Marineland Hex 5 tank (5 gallons). It has a bio-filter, and a heater that keeps it at around 77 degrees. I have the average colorful substrate, a couple tank decorations, and two plastic plants.

I keep a Crowntail male Betta in it, and two African Dwarf Frogs in it. I do water changes at least every other week, sometimes more often if I feel it needs it, I try to keep my tank fairly clean. I’ve been having an algae problem fairly serious where I’ve been scrubbing it every other day and I’ve had to dramatically cut back on the amount of time I have the light on.

I did some research and was trying to decide between a cherry shrimp and a Narite snail (preferably a zebra) to add to my tank. Everything I read say a Narite snail would be the best choice for my style tank and would do excellent with my Betta and wouldn’t affect the bioload. My only question is it okay to add the snail to the tank with the frogs there?

Thank you!
Let me know if you need me to add information.

Questions for a 20 gallon tank?

Okay, so I just got this deal on a 20 gallon high tank. It’s huge. Currently in it I have 1 golden mystery snail, 2 African dwarf frogs, and 6 neon tetras. I really need ideas to make hiding places and decorations. Also I used to have my ADFs in a half filled 5 gallon tank but now they’re in this new one and I’m worried they’ll get stressed trying to get to the surface. It’s about a 13-14 inch swim I think because I put a thick gravel lining. Also I wanted to know if I can fit anything else in there. Thanks!

Looking for correct info again?

STOCKING FOR GOLDFISH

75 gal. minimum, 20 gal. for each added after. Best suited for ponds– Common, Comet, Shubunkin, Butterfly Tail, Jikin, Oranda, Ryukin.

55 gal. minimum, 20 gal. for each added after– Black Moor, Fantail, Veiltail, Pearlscale.

30 gal. minimum, 10 gal. for each added after– Bubble Eye, Celestial Eye, Lionchu, Ranchu, Lionhead, Pompon.

Find out what kind you have, and get the proper tank size. They should have double filtering (a 60 gal. filter on a 30 gal. tank), they should have a ton of aeration. 25% water changes should be done bi-weekly via replacing what was taken out when vacuuming the gravel. There should be no live plants. There should be no other fish (particularly small ones) other than your goldfish. They should only be fed as much as they can eat in five minutes every other day, and flakes should be avoided. Goldifish, however, prefer to have no substrate in the tank.

STOCKING FOR A BETTA

Betta are tropical fish. They need a 5 gallon space without other fish. Males are to be kept alone, and females can be kept in soroities. Shrimp may be kept provided there is an ample amount of hiding places, as well as Mystery snails. They prefer to have an under gravel filter, though a low current filter will do. They are not very messy, and do not require any kind of extra filtering. They do, however, require a weekly 25% water change. This is best done by vacuuming the gravel and replacing the water that is taken out in the process. They need a heater set to a constant 78F, and a thermometer to make sure the temperature is right. Gravel, sand, or frosted glass stones are all acceptable substrate, though it’s best to use sand if you’re putting live plants in the tank. A tank hood with a light that can be turned on and off on a 12 hour schedule will do a lot of good with health and activity. Lights shouldn’t, obviously, be turned on and off rapidly. Silk or real plants are prefered because plastic plants will tear up their fins pretty fast. Real plants are best because they aerate the tank. You should have a few plants that break the surface of the water, as well as a few medium and short plants as well. They like to swim through and nestle down into the plants. A small cave should be provided, though care should be taken when selecting any decorations. Take a pantyhose with you and run it over the decorations you’re thinking of. If it snags, so will your bettas fins. In my opinion, for a planted tank, small halved terracotta pots look the best. They should be fed small betta pellets (3-5 per day) for 5 days (these can be swapped with blood worms to days), half a shelled pea the 6th day, and nothing on the 7th day so that they can digest correctly.
oscars?

STOCKING FOR A TEN GALLON

1 male betta, 4 mystery snails
1 male betta, 5-10 ghost shrimp
1 male betta, 2-3 african dwarf frogs
1 butterfly fish
1 Male Kenyi cichlid (sand substrate, no live plants)
2 tanganyikan shell-dwelling cichlids (1m/1f)
2 honey gouramis (1m/1f)
2 blue killifish (1m/1f)
2 pygmy killifish (1m/1f)
3 dwarf oto cats
3 DWARF puffers (1m/2f)
3 pygmy gouramis (1m/2f)
3 sparkling gouramis (1m/2f)
3-5 platies
5 female bettas
4-6 male guppies
4-6 male endlers livebearers
4-6 dwarf rasbora
6 emerald dwarf rasbora
6 pygmy hatchetfish
6-8 white cloud mountain minnows (these are coldwater)
15-30 cherry shrimp
15-30 crystal red shrimp
15-30 bamboo shrimp
15-35 ghost shrimp

4-6 pygmy/dwarf/albino/Julii corys may be kept as bottom dwellers with: gouramis, platies, guppies, endlers livebearers, rasboras, hatchetfish.

3 fiddler crabs. 1 male and 2 female. These are best kept alone in their group, as fish are part of their natural diet. They need a half land half water setup that consists of brackish water and sand. They eat shrimp pellets.

No barbs, no danios, no neon tetras (or any kind of tetras), no blue/gold/opaline gouramis, no goldfish, no parrot fish, no oscars, no angelfish, no piranhas, no plecos.

PLEASE ANSWER ONLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE HELPFUL IN SOME WAY.
Dear DanielC. All of your info is wrong. Goodbye.

Convict Cichlids, Owners of them only?

I am highly interested in the convicts. There beautiful fish and are 5 inches when full grown and perfenct for my 29 gallon aquarium.

I kno they can be very aggressive when in pairs so i was only going to get one. A male or female, I dont know yet.

I am getting them as young / baby.

I was going to buy some more decorations for my new aquarium and log since they like to go in them. Once my aquarium finish cycling or what not i am going to get one.

Now. The only reason im not getting 2 is because i dont want aggression bad and i own an african clawed frog thats 5 inches big.

IM GOING TO SAY THIS, MY AFRICAN CLAWED FROG IS 5 INCHES LONG AND DOESNT ATTACK FISH. THE ONLY ONES WHEN I GOT HIM HE ATE WERE MOLLY LITTLE 1/2 IN MOLLY BLACK MOLLY I THINK THEY WERE CALLED. AND THAT WAS SEVERAL YEARS AGO HE IS 7 YRS ALMOST 8 AND I HAD A MONTH AGO PUT GOLDFISH COMMETS THAT WERE 1.5 OR 2 INCHES BIG HE DIDNT GO AFTER THEM AT ALL.

HE EATS PELLETS NEVER WAS GIVIN LIVE FOOD SO THAT WHY HE DOESNT BOTHER THEM. I GAVE THE GOLDFISH AWAY THOUGH A NEOHEWS BDAY HE LIKED THEM.

he isnt active for the most part his mouth is small a little less close to an inch across.

So can they coexist he wouldnt bother it. n he is same size as they would be as af=dults so he is too big for the fish to eat.

1.) can they coexist together?
2.) What kinda fish if i only get one convict what other fish get along with them and wouldnt bother frog?
anything else add??

What types of fish can I put in a 5 gallon tank?

Alright. I have a nicely set-up 5 gallon tank, and I can put as many plants and decorations in itas possible. We are pretty good at keeping fish. I breed snails and have even gotten to the point where I am breeding for color in mystery snails (albino, red, and black). My brother used to raise Gar, African Clown Knife, Red-Tailed Cats, and things like that but now raises different types of Puffers, Lion Fish, Clown Fish, and other salt-water fish. I breed Triops (which is SUPER easy). And I have my Beta who is around 5 years old; so, fish around here are pretty much spoiled too as if they were apart of the family. Then there is the Dragon Goby we have who is a weird little guy and our star gazer and lion goldfish.

So, back to the big question! I have a 5 gallon aqurium with a very good bubbler and filter. The temp of the water is usually around 65*F-72*F (I believe that they should recieve nightcycles where the lights are off and the temp drops down a little). Most of the time, my room is around 70*F with the night being 65*F. I can put as many or as less plants/decorations as my heart (or the fishy’s) hearts desire. I would like more than 2 fish in the tank- but I just want something that looks nice.

I need help stocking my 10 gallon tank!?

- I know 10 gallon is pretty small but my mom wants me to get rid of my fish for my 30 gallon tank so she let my friend take care of it but i convinced her that i can take care of a tank so i would get my old 10 gallon aquarium and stock it with fish and take care of it, if the fish are still healthy after 6 months with no problems, i can keep my 10 gallon that i took care of and the 30 gallon tank. So plz help me out. Im decorating it so here are the decorations

10 pounds of gravel
2 mini ships
1 fake plant
18X12X10 tank with heater and filter

I have a couple of fish in mind.
-Snails
-Plecos
-African Dwarf Frogs
-Tiger Barbs

Well, i don’t know if petsmart or petco has cory cats but if they have those, i would get 3 of those instead of plecos. but do you think the tiger barbs would be good with the african dwarf frogs? and what other fish would be good to go with it (frog) and how many should i get? What should i get rid of though out of my list.

What has happened to our Pleco?

Our plecostamus has been “hanging” under one of the tank decorations for the last three or four days. Normally we find him hanging from the side of the tank or resting, dorsal fin up, on the bottom of the tank. Lately, he has been under one of the decorations, dorsal fin down. (We have been wondering how he could remain in this position but think we have discovered the answer…) Today when I happened to see him moving about the tank (50 gallon community with about two dozen mixed tetras and a pair of African dwarf frogs) he seems bloated and also seems to bo positively buoyant. He was on the glass of the tank just below the surface but in an unusual position. Normally, he hangs from the glass face up but today he was parallel with the surface of the water. He seemed not to be “stuck” to the glass, so that the current of water from the power bottom filter started to push him downstream. When he tried to recover from this, I noticed that his abdomen is bloated and that he seemed to be struggling to reach the bottom of the tank, suggesting that maybe he is bloated with gas. We feed the tank frozen blood worms (primarily for the frogs), frozen brine shrimp and miscellaneous food flakes (for the general population) and algae flakes (for the pleco.) Help?

Freshwater aquarium tiny white/translucent spots…hydra infestation?

I have had my new 10-gallon tank for about 3 weeks now. I have a betta, 2 mickey mouse platys, 2 cory catfish, 1 african dwarf frog, 5 ghost shrimp, and 4 live plants. Today when I woke up there were hundreds of tiny white/translucent spots all over the glass, decorations, plants, and gravel. They are only about the size of a pen tip. I think they are hydra polyps (from the live plants?), as they look attached to the glass but are waving with the current. I’ve read alot about how to get rid of them (or at least lower the population), but I want to do what is best for my fish. These are the solutions I am considering…

1. Remove all fish and most of the water, pour hot water in, add the fish back after the tank cycles and the temperature lowers. What I worry though is when I add the fish back there will be polyps in the water I kept them in. I’m not sure it will even work as some sites I read said the water must be 104 degrees for at least 2 hours, which would probably kill my plants.
2. Get a fish that eats them. I’ve read that gouramis will, but I’ve also read they’re not compatible with bettas…the betta we have now is not aggressive at all, he gets close to the other fish and never bothers them. He never even flares at anyone.
3. Use chemicals to kill them. But I worry these chemicals will also kill my shrimp or even my fish.
4. Cut back on the fish food (although I don’t think I’ve been overfeeding), so the hydras have less food. Maybe my hungry fish will eat the hydras?

I wanted to get this problem solved while the hydras are tiny, before they can hurt anyone. Also, my tank is in indirect sunlight for most of the day (it’s really cold in winter here and I didn’t want the heater to run 24/7, I also thought the light would be good for the plants). I don’t have any fry but I mostly worry the hydras in the gravel will bother my shrimp. There are also alot of hydra in the decoration my betta loves to be in, can they hurt my betta or is he big enough that I shouldn’t even worry? I feed my fish flakes, twice a week they get frozen bloodworms. My fish thank you for your answers! :)
Thanks Jerry, but that says not for use with “ornamental invertabrates”, does that mean it will kill my shrimp?
