Fundraiser Ideas?

So my school is having an African Festival to raise money for child soldiers in Africa.

Some ideas we already have include:
- blankets with Africa on them
- crafts: jewelry making, mask making, tie dye
- raffle
- food
- selling shirts etc

This is a elementary, middle, and high school event and we have a budget.

Any ideas?

Thanks is advance!

What about playing African music? You could sell or raffle CD’s with prominent African artists performing or You could have a section where festival goers could practice drumming or playing other traditional African instruments:

For your crafts section someone could do henna designs on hands and feet or someone doing hair braiding.

You might have some African games to play like Oware:

My children’s elementary school has had a carnival for years. They’ve solicited community donations for prizes, and they make several Ks in one evening…

They get cheap prizes (stuffed animals, pencils, etc. – the PTA can help with this) and have students buy tickets 5 tickets/$1 in advance, 4/$1 on the day of the carnival. One ticket allows you to play one game.

Use one of the schools and have students/parents/staff/scouting troops staff each booth/classroom for games the community has made. Also, local and chain restaurants served meals in the cafeteria as well as PTA hot dogs & chips.

The cake walk was a surprising money maker (about 30 moms donated a decorated 1-layer cake (60 cakes) and they charged one ticket to participate. They put tiles or carpet squares on the stage and played music like musical chairs. Whoever was standing on the square with the magic number at the end of the music was the winner of the cake. Who knew? They also had a silent auction where parents/friends could donate stuff “business” paraphrenilla for patrons to bid on.

One of the biggest “sellers” was having the elementary school principle being soaked with water ballons from her proge. Of course they couldn’t soak her because of their size and strength but…

    Good luck!
