Why do asian people hold so tight to their culture?

ALL of the asian people i know buy food from asian stores, decorate their houses in an asian manner, only speak some form of chinese at home even though their kids only know a few words…
is there something in thier culture that requires them to associate everything with it?
My bff is chinese… candanese to be exact. And ive been in her house many times. Her parents were born in america… Her house is completely decked out with chinese hangings and decorations… she speaks candanese at home and is learning more at chinese school… she eats basically nothing but chinsese food that she gets from chinese markets..
i mean .. you dont see african americans eating nothing but african food and them have african hangings in their houses… it just fascinates me how much asians hold on to thier culture… is there a reason why?
there are alot of asian people where i live and they all are so involved in their culture.

Ethnic-Eclectic Decorating Reflects a Global Culture

Between the rise of jet travel and the advent of the Internet, Planet Earth really has become a much smaller place. The mingling of many cultural styles has result in a new decorating trend that combines international folk art with functional furnishings in a style known as Ethnic-Eclectic design.
Ethnic-Eclectic can be difficult to determine at first because of its very nature. The best way to decide if a room has become an E-E style is to check its overall mood. Decor with accents and accessories that look like they’ve come from faraway places definitely qualifies as the new Ethnic-Eclectic style.
To create this style of home decor, start by studying the main furnishings. These typically will have a decidedly ethnic style such as a sofa in a Native American print fabric, African animal prints or bold Mexican stripes. However, many times the furniture will be sturdy but plain, serving as the background for a large display of eye-catching pieces with a clearly global origin.
Take a good look at these smaller furnishings. Here is where Ethnic-Eclectic style will be most pronounced. Carved or hand-painted small tables, natural rattan chairs that evoke African or Pacific Islander images and coarse kilim rugs from Turkey are but a few of the visible signs of a global sensibility. Accessories will come from all over the world. They will include such things as Chinese brass cricket boxes, Indian brass candlesticks, carved wood boxes from many Asian countries, and candleholders in carved wood, wrought iron or boldly painted ceramic.
Examine the floor coverings. Whether the flooring is dark hardwoods reminiscent of Asia, stone or terracotta tiles from Mexico, the floors will be topped with an array of the world’s finest area rugs: Southwestern rugs, African animal print rugs, leather rugs and soft Flokati rugs from Greece.
Walls likewise will show evidence of Ethnic-Eclectic influences, such as faux paint finishes that resemble adobe or African or Asian grass-cloth wallpaper. The walls will be adorned with folk art such as Mexican masks, embroidered Asian silk, Balinese batiks or framed antique maps or vintage postcards with photos of exotic lands. Clothing from other cultures, especially vintage or finely crafted apparel such as Japanese kimonos or beaded Native American moccasins, is often showcased.
Window treatments can run a gamut of materials and styles. There may be bamboo matchstick blinds, Roman shades made of woven wood, Mexican blankets hanging from big rings on wrought-iron rods, or plantation-style shutters. More conventional draperies are likely to be made of fabrics with patterns such as African mud cloth, exotic florals, Japanese or Chinese writing or bamboo prints.
Lighting fixtures and lamps also will have international flair. Chandeliers may be of wrought iron or hammered brass. Lamps will have bases made of Mexican pottery, terra cotta, rattan and ceramic ginger jars. Lamps could be designed as palm trees or jungle animals in wood, resin, clay or metal, with lamp shades of woven rattan, pleated linen or handmade paper to complement the cultural style.
Ethnic-Eclectic decorating is one of the most exciting trends today because it incorporates the art and craft of so many marvelous human cultures around the world.

I advise darker colors that won’t show the mud easily if your dog likes to get mud-spattered on stormy days. Hello From Orlando: An Orlando Jewel, The Wells Built Museum Of African American History And Culture

After I had received a general overview of the history of the Orlando area in the Orange County Regional History Center, I wanted to delve a little deeper into the social history of the Orlando area, and the Wells Built Museum of African American History and Culture was going to give me a more in-depth look into Orlando’s African American history.
To this day this area west of I-4 is primarily inhabited by African Americans and the difference in housing and facilities between this area and the downtown area is quite notable. As a matter of fact, the very name “Division Street” points to a distinct historical line of demarcation between black and white residential areas.
The origins of the Wells Built Museum date back to a prominent local African physician by the name of Dr. William Monroe Wells who started building the Well’s Built Hotel in 1926 to provide lodging to African Americans during an era of segregation when accommodations were not available to them in other areas of Central Florida.
Next door to the Wells’ Built was once the South Street Casino, a performance hall, which featured musicians that traveled the ‘Chitlin Circuit’ performing for audiences all over the country. The hotel opened with three storefronts on the first floor and hotel rooms on the second floor.
Dr. William Monroe Wells was one of Orlando’s first black physicians and came to the area in 1917. Born in Ft. Gaines, Georgia, in 1889, Dr. Wells completed his medical training at Meharry Medical College. During part of WWII, Dr. William Monroe Wells was the only African American physician in Orlando.
During segregation, white physicians did not treat African American patients. African American doctors, therefore, earned their money from people of their own race. He worked very hard to serve the growing African American population in Orlando. With the help of his assistant, Mrs. Josie Belle Jackson, Dr. Wells is known to have delivered over 5,000 babies in Orlando.
He treated patients who suffered from pneumonia, influenza, scarlet fever and other serious illnesses before drugs like penicillin were introduced. Many of Dr. Wells’ patients were extremely poor. He treated their illnesses though they many times could not afford to pay his fee. This allowed them to speak forcefully against poor conditions that existed in the African American community without fear of losing their livelihood.
Although African Americans were taxpayers like other residents of Orlando, they did not have access to recreational facilities, good schools, police protection, health care and other services that were provided to white citizens. This led him to build the South Street Casino and the hotel next door.
Dr. Wells booked bands and other big name entertainers to perform at the South Street Casino. Many famous performers that we know today played at South Street Casino within the Chitlin Circuit. A few examples of these performers are:
- Ray Charles
- B.B. King
- Louis Armstrong
- Guitar Slim
- Bo Diddley
African Americans came from all over the surrounding areas to Orlando to shop and take in performances of popular musicians at the South Street Casino. After the performances at the casino, the artists checked in at the historic Wells’ Built Hotel. In its heyday, the Wells’ Built provided lodging for clientele such as Pegleg Bates, Ella Fitzgerald, Roy Campenella, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson. The entertainers and athletes who frequented this establishment made it one of the most popular venues for African Americans in the South.
Today the museum features over 6,000 square feet of display space. It retains the original hotel facade, a guestroom featuring authentic furniture, beading and decorations of the 1930’s, and also bears an original interior wall reflecting important architectural elements and designs unique to the period. Exhibition material collected for display include: official hotel documents, an original Negro League baseball jersey, photographs, artifacts, books, multi-media exhibits, slave records and other items of historic significance.
Dr. Well’s home has been moved to the site of the Casino and will be restored and opened to the public. The Well’s Built Museum of African American Culture and History is located just west of I-4 near Church Street at 511 West South Street, Orlando 32801, tel. (407) 245-7535.

Tribes
Kenya tribes are grouped into larger subgroups based on their cultural and linguistic similarities. There are three major categories of languages: Bantu, Nilotes and Cushites. Cushites are mainly pastoralists and nomads, found in North Eastern province. Bantu speaking people are usually found in the Central

English and Swahili are the two main languages. There are however many other tribal languages. Major tribal languages include: Gikuyu, Luo, Luhia, Kikamba, Kisii and Kalejin.
Cuisine
Different communities have different cultures and traditions and thus different dishes. Staple foods are maize and other cereals eaten with meat and variety of vegetables. The most common dish among Kenyans is Ugali. Its cornmeal cooked with water to a thick consistency. This is usually eaten with green vegetables referred as sukuma wiki.
Art and Craft
Diverse cultures and traditions in Kenya imply very rich source of art work. Every community is known for its special kind of art. The most popular items include: Maasai blankets, Kisii soap stone carvings, wooden carvings, Maasai beads, tribal masks, Kangas, kikoi, sisal baskets among others.
Kenyan animal hide drums will always remind you of African rhythm. Wooden carvings often come as exiting mixture of black and brown. Soap stones carvings are very beautiful and are popularly used to adorn homes with their smooth, eclectic look. They clearly display the ingenuity and talents of Kenyans artisans.
Most Kenya cultures and traditions put great emphasis on their looks and jewelry come in handy to enhance their looks. These pieces of art are not only amazing but carry symbolic meaning.
