African Dwarf Frog owners?

Are there any AFD owners out there? Well, I went to gulf shores about 3 weeks ago and at the gift shop I saw a shelf full of little AFDs. They were living in these little “miniature aquariums”. There were normally two frogs to an “aquarium and an apple snail. Also came with an aquatic plant and the rocks were seeded with beneficial bacteria. Well I ended up buying an aquarium that had 2 male AFs in it.

I felt sorry for the little guys being forced to live in that box. I also read on numerous AFD care websites that one frog should have 1 gallon of room. I plan on switching them to my 1 and a half gallon tank very soon. I have to get some more rocks and some water conditioner, tall decoration and stuff like that.

My question is what products have worked the best for your frogs? I have been researching ADs for a few days now and want to learn all I can about these funny little creatures!
Sammy is a cute name.

I named mine Poco and Piu. Poco means little in Italian and Piu means more. Poco is the younger of the two, so he is smaller, and Piu always looks for more food after I feed them lol. They eat like pigs. Their names are both musical terms.

African Clawed Frog swalloed foriegn object!?

Our albino acf is 2 years old, about the size of a small cell phone, and very active. Tonight during feeding I noticed that it appears that it has swallowed one of the glass marble decorations sold for the aquariams..flat on one side, round on the other..does anyone know if I should even attempt to get this to come back up..it seems to be logged in the lower part of the abdm. right above the left hind leg.(on the tummy side. )
any suggestions? Thank you.
oh, here let me add ..I forgot to say..I am a vet tech, I am also a permited wildlife rehabilator here in Texas and if I knew of a vet in the area that would see my frog I would have called them. Anyone think of anything else? I got the frog out and did a palpation of sorts..had to lay it on its back on a washcloth and TRY to keep it from wriggling away..I could not feel anything at all..either side, flipped it over and re-palpated..still nothing..but then when I placed it back in the water there came the round bump again..exact same size and shape as the dang decorations. Hmmm. frustrated.

Betta fish and African Dwarf Frog compatibility?

I was thinking of starting a 5 gallon aquarium.

this is how I was going to set it up;
Eco complete substrate
marimo ball
anacharis plants (one or two)
maybe some small low lying plants like dwarf baby tears
A cave-like hide decoration

I want a Plakat dragon scaled Betta, Ill probably have to import one from Thailand since thats where all the nice ones are.

I was thinking of putting an African Dwarf Frog in the tank too, since he would be a nice little addition. I have heard and seen people who have kept bettas and AFS’s together without problems.

I know bettas are agressive at times and ADF’s are nippy… but plakat bettas have shorter fins unlike veiled bettas and what not… so that might reduce the problem.

What are your opinions on keeping bettas and ADF’s? has anyone done this?

thankyou :)

PS: please refrain from negative comments regarding the subject, if you dont have anything nice or helpful to say, dont say it at all. Also, dont tell me 5 gallons isnt enough, because it is Plenty for one betta and an ADF, its plenty plenty plenty of room, trust me I have bettas, one in a 5 gal and he is just fine, and has been for 2 and a half years.

My African Dwarf frog isn’t eating, what could be wrong?

I just got an African Dwarf frog like two days ago, I put it in with our other fish (when I say other fish I mean only one fish), I think it’s a “Rainbow fish”, but the next day we checked on the frog and he was underneath our castle decoration and he wasn’t moving, so we moved him to another tank and now he’s more active but now he’s not eating. I’m feeding him “Shrimp Pellets” and it says its designed for bottom feeders, they’re about a quarter of an inch long so I’m wondering if they’re too big for him. I tried breaking them into smaller bits but he’s still not eating them. It has been about 5 hours since we fed him and the food is still in the tank untouched. He seems very healthy, active, and swimming fine but he just won’t eat. What else could be wrong?

I’m starting a new tank with a Betta and a African Dwarf Frog, any suggestions?

I have a 5 Gallon Tank. With a Whisper Power Filter, Medium. I plan to lower the current somehow. Although my Tank is cycling right now, I have a couple of questions. I Put gravel, Silk plants and a little decorations, no Chemicals to water yet, And in my last pH test, a 7.6. I will put API’s Stress Coat. WIll this harm the frog? And if it will, what other Dechlorinizer should I use? I hate a heater in there, and I unplugged it because of the temperature. I Have an Air stone in there. And will be feed my Frog Frozen Brine Shrimp. My Betta some Freeze Dried Brine Shrimp, Blood WOrms, and Frozen Brine Shrimp. And I will add some live plants. Most likely a plant called “Betta Bulbs.” Well.. That’s the product name.

Main Questions:
Will Stress Coat be ok for an African Dwarf Frog?
Is there any sorta food needed for the Frog?
What should the pH level be for both?
Will they get along happily?
Any other live plants that both would like?
How can I lower the current from my filter?
Will Stress Zyme harm any of them?
Does a frog need a varied diet?
If it needs a Varied diet, What do I feed it?
Can the frog live in an aquarium with some Aquarium Salt?

Good Accessories for African Dwarf Water Frog Tank?

I have a 1 gallon aquarium for my two [2] african dwarf frogs. they live fully in the water. I may get a bigger tank, may not. I want to put in some decorations and thinks they can hide in or tunnel through. I don’t want to spend much money. Where could I get these things for the tank and what to get? Could I make anything or find anything already around the house? Please help! Thanks!
Well, I got these frogs from “wild creatons” see: http://wildcreations.com , and they had a tank about half the size of the 1 gallon tank i have now, and they did mention that the frogs could live in that their whole lives. you go have to understand these frogs are tiny and are only about the size of the top part of your thumb! hehe.

African clawed frog care/tips- easy points!?

I have purchased 3 albino african clawed frogs (today) and have them a 60L tank filled a 1/3 of the way to help prevent hitting the top of the lid when jumping and drowning, the temperature is at 22 degrees but i have heater if suggested, the filter is not in use and i know to clean most the water out weekly (it has said 90% online).
The decorations are gravel (will be changed to rocks once bigger) two peices of bogwood that allow them to sit on at the surface and a load of round smooth rocks.
At least one of them is male, i looked at the one not hiding. I have read up on basic care and best tank set up for them but i want to hear some tips from owners of acf’s as they will know more about them than the internet suggesting different things.
I will most likely be moving them to a longer lower set tank as they get older or just a longer tank half filled. How often should i feed them they are baby’s? i know its 3-4 days for adults and what would be a good weekly varied diet for them inc live shrimp, pellets and blood worm?

Thanks for any tips.

Also they arent sitting st the top much, is this normal? They do have wood to sit on to sit at the surface but keep sitting at the bottom.

African Dwarf frog living with a Betta?

I have an african dwarf frog that I got yesterday. It lives in a 2.5 mini bow with a filter and a heater. It hides in a decoration all the time and dosen’t come out. Will it come out when it gets used to it’s new home or will it always stay hidden?
