i was wondering which west african tribe i should do it on (it has to be west africa.. and if u can provide me with some symbolism of the politics of west africa that will be helpful as well..)
I read this book “Gandhi: Behind the Mask of Divinity” and it was quite a stunning piece of factual research showing Gandhi was not a saint as proclaimed by the propaganda. Gandhi didn’t like Black people and wrote arrays of violent literature against them
Some quotes from www.gandhism.net and the book
Before Dec. 19, 1894
“A general belief seems to prevail in the Colony that the Indians are little better, if at all, than savages or the Natives of Africa. Even the children are taught to believe in that manner, with the result that the Indian is being dragged down to the position of a raw Kaffir.” ~ Vol. I, p. 193
Sept. 26, 1896
“Ours is one continual struggle against a degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the Europeans, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir whose occupation is hunting, and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with and, then, pass his life in indolence and nakedness.” ~ Vol. I, pp. 409-410
Masks perform in the Winiama village of Ouri, in central Burkina Faso, in 2006 and 2007. The masks represent spirits of nature from the wilderness that watch over the community, families, and their individual senior male owners. The monkey mask is the trickster, always mischievous, and the bush buffalo is the most powerful and dangerous animal in the wilderness. www.createspace.com internet marketing tools
i have to make a paper mache mask for a tribal group in central Africa and i cant find a lot on masks in that region. please suggest something (or show pics = )

The mask I made is called the Mwana Pwo. The mask comes from Chokwe of Angola. Angola is a country in south-Central Africa. The mask is made out of wood and vegetal fiber. Although the mask is a women men wore it in a initiation ceremonies called Mukanda. The Mask is suppose to show features that are admired in a young woman and an ideal mother. At ceremonies the masks are worn with a knit body suit that has features of a women. They also have a dance for it that mimics gestures of a women. The Mwana Pwo reflects all the positive Characteristics of an ideal Chokwe role model. Women from the Chokwe of Angola think the mask honors them. It has been called the most beautiful mask of all African Masks. This mask is a wonderful mask That represents the great features of women.
